Championship and event counts are updated after each major tournament cycle. Infrastructure scores and audience estimates are reviewed quarterly. Every metric includes internal last-updated timestamps. EsportsAtlas does not use unverified rumors or speculative data in any comparison.

Common questions about esports regional comparisons and the EsportsAtlas comparison engine.

The comparison engine lets you select any two esports regions and compares them across 7 key metrics: championships won, major events hosted, active pro teams, players exported, infrastructure score, audience size (millions), and international performance rating. Each metric is displayed with a proportional bar showing the relative strength of each region. Data is sourced from verified public records and updated after every major tournament cycle.
You can compare 8 major esports regions: South Korea, China, North America, Europe, Brazil, Southeast Asia, Japan, and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States). Each region is profiled with comprehensive data on competitive performance, esports infrastructure, player talent pipelines, and audience reach. We plan to add Oceania, Middle East, and South Asia as those scenes continue to grow.
South Korea leads in championships won (48), international rating (98/100), and player export rate (95). The region pioneered professional esports infrastructure in the late 1990s with dedicated TV channels (OGN, MBC Game), world-class training facilities, and government recognition of esports as a legitimate profession. Teams like T1, Gen.G, and DRX have consistently dominated international tournaments across League of Legends, StarCraft, Overwatch, and Valorant. Korea's high-speed internet infrastructure and intense practice culture have produced more world champions than any other region.
EsportsAtlas uses 7 primary comparison metrics: Championships Won counts total international titles; Major Events Hosted tallies tier-1 and tier-2 tournaments organized; Active Pro Teams measures current professional rosters; Players Exported tracks pros competing in foreign leagues; Infrastructure Score (0–100) rates facilities, broadcast quality, and support systems; Audience estimates the regional fanbase in millions; and International Rating (0–100) measures sustained global competitive performance over the past 5 years.
Regional comparison data is updated after every major international tournament cycle, which typically means updates following events like the League of Legends World Championship, VCT Champions, The International, and CS2 Majors. Championship counts and prize pool totals are verified against official organizer records. Infrastructure scores are recalculated quarterly based on new facility openings, league structure changes, and broadcast upgrades. Audience metrics are updated using the latest available viewership and survey data.
